After a deadly chemical accident, 14-year old Yassen Gregorovitch, the main character, is forced to leave his village in Russia. Since his parents could not come with him, Yassen was forced to go to Moscow alone where he met his parent’s friend, Misha Dementyev who tells on him to the police. After running away from prison, Yassen meets the rich businessman, Vladimir Sharkovsky. After finding out that Sharkovsky was the cause of the chemical accident, Yassen vows to kill him. After escaping Sharkovsky’s home, Yassen chooses to join the deadly terrorist organization called Scorpia. He was chosen because his record was completely destroyed in the chemical accident. This is vital because no top-secret spy organization can track him. He trains in their top-secret facility in the island of Malagosto. There he meets John Rider. They become friends and complete several missions together. After a while, Yassen is assigned a new mission that would be vital in changing the world of crime-fighting forever. What is the mission? Gone-Away Lake
Author
Elizabeth Enright
Review
This book perfectly sums up summer. When two cousins stumble upon a dried up lake surrounded by crumbling houses, they befriend the lake's two inhabitants. The old brother and sister living there paint a picture of gilded age vacations and luxuries on the canvas of a relatively modern summer. Anyone who has ever experienced summer in the past or present will instantly become enamored with this book.  Find it in the catalog!

Review
Independent Study is the second novel in the highly acclaimed Testing trilogy. At this point, the main character, Malencia Vale, has completed all entrance exams to the University and must now take on the responsibilities as a student. However, she soon discovers that due to her past tests and actions, University officials believe she is a threat and continuously attempt to eliminate her. Additionally, she is caught in the cross-fire between the Testing administration and the national government, and the conflict threatens to erupt. Who will survive?

This novel is an excellent read for all teenagers. However, be aware that in order to understand the events of this book, you must read its predecessor by the same author. Happy reading!  Find it in the catalog!
