This year's summer reading theme is SPACE!, and what better way to explore it than to make a diy spaceship for an astronaut? Except that our astronaut will be an egg, and you'll have one hour to make it a spacecraft that we can drop from 10 feet high without it breaking! Good luck!

Description
Galaxies act as the cities of the Universe, from small "towns" with only a few tens of thousands of stars to massive metropolises boasting billions.  What makes up a galaxy?  How are these galaxies affected by the environment around them?  And most importantly, how is it possible to study objects that are billions of light years away and gain knowledge about their inner workings?  We'll take a broad look at galaxies and the universe as a whole, from spirals to ellipticals, from black holes to stars, and from dark matter to dark energy.

Presented by Adam Broussard of the Department of Physics and Astronomy Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.  Alex has  two primary research areas - the first is in studying methods of observing galaxy star formation variability, which gives insight into the physical processes occurring in galaxies to turn star formation on and off.  The second concentrates on studying how galaxies are clustered in the Universe, which gives us information about how dark energy as affected the expansion of the Universe since the Big Bang.

Welcome to the Summer Reading Clubs of the Woodbridge Public Library System!

All readers in grades 8 through 12 are invited to participate in the library’s teen summer reading program from June 17 through August 9, 2019. This year's theme is Universe of Stories!

Join the program, and for every book, ebook, graphic novel, manga, or audiobook you read or listen to, you'll have a chance to win awesome prizes!

To sign up: fill out a registration sheet at the Main Library adult reference desk or the branches, or register online. If you sign up with the sheet, you will automatically have an account created for you online. Your default username is your first name and initial of last name (aka AmyM), and your password is the last 4 digits of the phone number you list.

To enter contests: Fill out a raffle ticket for each item and turn them in at the Main Library adult reference desk or at the branches. OR get all technological and log your items in online via this portal! You can use either option or a combo of both (just don't repeat items). For each ticket, you'll be able to choose from six prize baskets. Pick which basket you want to put that ticket toward-- the more tickets you enter, the greater your chances of winning! Think of it like a tricky tray. You can put all your tickets toward one basket, or spread them out. It's up to you!

There's no reading hours to keep track of!

You can also win prizes with our Book in a Jar contests, and by submitting reviews. And don't forget about the great programs going on this summer for readers just like you!

If you need help registering or logging in, just stop by a reference desk at the Main Library or any of the branches, or call 732-634-4450 ext 7120.
